Frances Wojnar's next novel!, April 7, 2007
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)

A carefully constructed mystery novel by Frances Bries Wojnar, "Magdalena's Conflict" is set in a community of Catholic nuns when Mother Rosaria's death is believed to be from natural causes by everyone except Sister Camille who asks Detective Henry Kummer to look into the matter. This request alarms the New Mother Superior who orders Sister Camille to see a psychologist. The result is Sister Camille's examination of why she embraced the religious life of a nun. As the investigation by Detective Kummer proceeds, the reader is treated to a gradual uncovering of the rituals and personality conflicts that are a part of the life and society of the nuns. One unexpected result is Sister Camille resuming her civilian identity as Maggie Brenner and her evolving romance with Detective Kummer as the two work together to discover the truth about the death of Mother Rosaria. A superbly crafted novel and one that clearly documents Frances Bries Wojnar as a gifted storyteller, "Magdalena's Conflict" is especially recommended for mystery enthusiasts who enjoy a well crafted, well rounded mystery novel, and for non-specialist general readers who would enjoy a novel set within the world and lives of Catholic nuns. "Magdalena's Conflict" will have its readers looking eagerly toward Frances Wojnar's next novel!
