HOW TO CREATE PLOT AND SCENES FOR YOUR PROJECTS
On Saturday, January 14, the Mt. Diablo Branch of the California
Writers Club presented a talk by Martha Alderson, author of Blockbuster
Plots: Pure & Simple.
The biggest problem all writers face today is creating plot and scenes
for their individual pro jects. Martha Alderson shows plot rather than
talking about it. Using two unique step-by-step visual tools for
developing and deepening scenes and plot, she shows novelists and
memoirists, and screenplay, short story, and creative non-fiction
writers how to layer three distinct yet overlapping plotlines –
Character Emotional Development, Dramatic Action, and Thematic Plot.
When the dramatic action changes the character at depth over time, the
story becomes thematically significant. Learn the tools and resources
to get from where you are – stuck and unable to begin or stuck and
unable to finish – to where you want to be – holding a finished
project. Alderson effectively demonstrates the relationship between
scene and plot and explains the principles involved in the art and
craft of developing sizzling scenes and compelling plots and story
design. She offers techniques to help writers maintain faith and enjoy
the process of creation.
Martha Alderson, M.A., is an award-winning writer of historical
fiction, and a plot consultant. She teaches plot workshops privately
and through UCSC-X, Learning Annex, at writers’ conferences and more.
She has transformed the lives of hundreds of published and aspiring
writers with her workshops, consultations and her book. Her clients
include best-selling authors, writing teachers and editors.
This meeting was held at the Hungry Hunter, 3201 Mt. Diablo Blvd.,
Lafayette
on January 14, 2006.
