Children’s Author Lynn Hazen to
Speak
To CWC and Young Writers Contest Winners
Join the California Writers Club for our monthly meeting, May 14th,
which will be held at the Holiday Inn in Concord to accommodate the
winners of our Young Writers Contest and their parents as well as our
regular members. As part of our celebration of young writers, Lynn
Hazen will speak about "Finding My Voice, Finding Your Voice as a
Children's Author."
Lynn E. Hazen completed her MFA in Writing for Children and Young
Adults at Vermont College, where she won the Houghton Mifflin Award for
Shifty, her YA novel-in-progress. She also has an M.A. in
Education, and a B.S. in Applied Behavioral Sciences.
Hazen's first middle grade novel, Mermaid Mary Margret,
was called "a winner" by Kirkus Reviews. Her second children's book is
a picture book. Buzz Bumble To The Rescue will be
available in May 2005. Both are published by Bloomsbury. The author says inspiration often
comes from her own kids as well as the exuberant children she
encounters in her job as a preschool director.
On
May 14 she will join the club in honoring the winners of this year’s
Young Writers Contest, which accepts short stories, essays, and poems
from sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in Contra Costa County. 11:30
a.m. for
socializing, luncheon to
follow.
The luncheon public meeting will be at THE HOLIDAY INN - 1050 Burnett
Ave. in Concord. $17 for members and $20 for guests.
